Review:
The Boulton Creek Campground is way off the beaten path, but completely worth the drive. It is a very wooded area with large campsites. B-45 was a curved pull-through and just a little bit tight and sloped, but we made it work.
Importantly, there is no wifi or cell reception in the campground. The Visitor Centre about 15 minutes away has wifi, and you have to drive to Mt Kidd RV Resort (about 30 minutes from Boulton Creek) to get cell coverage.
We would consider using the E Loop next time, which has more than 15-amp power and full hookups. Otherwise, we loved this campground, especially the grizzly bear who showed up our first morning at an empty campsite across from us. He ate dandelion greens and then took off into the woods. Magical!
The campground store has ice cream (limited hours). You can get a pretty good hike just walking around the hills of the campground or through the neighboring campground (Elkwood). There are also lots of hikes a short drive away–Marl Lake (so-so), Spruce Lake, Upper Kananaskis Lake (to the Upper Falls), Canadian Mt. Everest Expedition Trail.
The highlight here was the wildlife viewing–a mama grizzly with one cub, another mama with three tiny cubs, lots of bighorn sheep–all shapes and sizes. They were mostly on Hwy 40 but also on Kananaskis Lakes Trail close to the Hwy 40 turnoff.
We would DEFINITELY stay here again if we visited Kananaskis Country!
