Review:

It is always hot in the Barstow/Calico area in the summer. The Barstow Calico KOA Journey is right off the I-15 freeway and provides a few sites with shade for $5 extra. Totally worth it!

The campground staff were friendly and the check-in process was efficient and smooth. Campsites are level gravel with picnic tables and trees (if you book a shaded site). Site #34 had low water pressure, but otherwise was great. 

Though we have repeatedly stayed at the county campground at Calico, we probably will use this KOA from now on, as it is easier to get into and has a bit more shade. I was able to book the reservation the day before, and the campground was not full in early July. It is located just a few minutes from the Calico Ghost Town and about 15 minutes from Barstow.
