Review

Costa Vista RV Resort (Sun Outdoors San Diego Bay) is a brand-new (as of April 2021) RV campground located right next to the southern portion of San Diego Bay in an area that appears to be wetlands. Don’t trust Google Maps or the campground website to get you here. Use the 825 E Street address, and exit off I-5 at Exit 8B. The campground is just west of the off ramp (from either I-5 North or South).

They also charge you $10 per hour if you show up early (before 2:00 pm check-in), so keep that in mind in your travel plans. Having said that, this is a beautiful campground with well-spaced sites that are very level concrete pads with room for the car on the side. Each site has a picnic table, four adirondack chairs and a fire pit (you can rent a propane tank from the office for use with the fire pit). The perimeter sites are more expensive and include gas barbecue grills and a direct view to the water (though we had a pretty good view from our site).

They eventually will have an on-site café and deli, but when we were there, food trucks showed up three times a day to feed people. The pool area was very popular on Sunday afternoon.

It’s just a few miles to head down the road to Imperial Beach or to find supermarkets and restaurants. There are all kinds of bike paths very close to the campground. We would definitely stay here again if visiting the San Diego area. It’s expensive, but you do feel like you get a great location and good amenities for your money.
