Review:
This campground opened in 2021 and is a great addition to the limited camping options in the San Francisco Bay area. Located at the southern end of the bay, just east of the Dumbarton Bridge, and nestled in the Coyote Hills Regional Park, this county campground has very nice facilities, including beautiful restrooms and a camp store.
Campsites are back-in with well-spaced, asphalt pads with DG under the picnic tables and firepits. Though our site was somewhat unlevel, it was workable. Trees will eventually provide a little more privacy, but the uncrowded space was very comfortable.
Most sites are unlevel because of the way the campground slopes on the property. It looks like sites 5-9 are more level than most, and in the corner furthest away from civilization.
We rode our bikes directly from the campground to the levees along the bay, and through some of the hills just north of the campground. Though it was hot further inland, the breeze off the bay was a welcome coolant.
We would definitely stay here again when coming to the San Francisco area. It’s definitely nicer than the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, where we’ve stayed several times.
When we stayed here in December, we had beautiful sunrises on the mornings it wasn’t raining. Costco Gasoline in nearby Newark worked out very well for filling the RV tank.
