Review

Eagle River Campground is located in Chugach State Park near the town of Eagle River, a suburb of Anchorage. The signs (and Google Maps directions) to get to this campground were very confusing. Once you get into the campground, you are advised to drive around and find a site that does not have occupants or a white tag on the post (indicating someone is staying there). Once you choose your site, you return to the kiosk at the front and pay with a credit card (putting in your license plate, not the site number).

It took us a bit of time to find 4 sites close together, but we did. Checkout time is 12:00, and we arrived just before that, so people were still packing up in some of the sites.

Our site was a bit unlevel, but not too hard to fix. The road and sites are smooth asphalt, and the campsites have firepits, grass, trees, and lots of room and privacy. There are also a lot of mosquitoes, but otherwise, this is a beautiful campground, with tons of great campsites.

They do have bathrooms, but no showers. The dump station was not working, and the trash bin was over by the dump station, quite a ways from the campsites.

We would definitely stay here again if we were in the Anchorage area. If you can get by with no hookups, it’s a beautiful place to be.
