Review: This campground is in a very rural area, and the check-in procedures were a little confusing, but eventually we found the ranger and everything proceeded. There was some concern that the site might be too short for us, so he said we could pick another available site, but it turned out to be long enough for our 31-foot motorhome.

Our site had some shade, and we ran the generator and A/C throughout the very hot afternoon. The site was awkwardly configured, and we were sort of in a cul-de-sac with the neighboring site.

After a brief thunderstorm (with hail), it cooled down a bit, so we were able to walk to the Headwaters along a mowed path with lots of mosquitoes.
On Saturdays in the summer, the state park has guest speakers, so we got to sit in on a talk by a retired NPS ranger regarding who might have “discovered” the Missouri Headwaters before Lewis and Clark came. They also had free s’mores after the campground talk.

The park has some good biking possibilities too, but it was just too hot when we were there. We would consider staying here again if we didn’t need hookups and if it were a little cooler.
