North Carolina State Fairgrounds Campground

801 Youth Center Drive
Raleigh, NC 27606

Date Visited: May 2017

Site: #2, BACK-IN, FULL HOOKUPS

We paid: $24 PER NIGHT

Review: This campground was a last-minute addition, as we tried to outrun a storm and couldn’t get to our original campground. We have since learned that state and county fairgrounds often have hookups for RVs, so they can be a great place for overnight camping.

The check-in process was a little confusing, as the kiosk was closed and there was a phone number on the side, which we called. The staff eventually called us back. We got to choose our own site, which was up the hill.

There are no external restrooms or showers here, so you have to use your own facilities, but otherwise, this was a great place for us. The sites were quite large, though somewhat close together, on gravel and fairly level, with a view of the fireworks that night.

We would consider staying here again if we needed a place near Raleigh.

You can see the nightly fireworks from the campground.
