Review: Smuggler’s Den is a great location if you need hookups, want to visit Acadia National Park, but don’t want to be in Bar Harbor. Southwest Harbor is the “quietside of Acadia,” and the campground was nestled in among the trees in a very quiet location.

Sites are well-marked and have a few trees and a lot of grass, with level gravel pads. Our cats loved the little forest in the back of our site.

We were here on Memorial Day weekend, so the campground was pretty full, and there were some loud outdoor groups, but nothing out of control. It wasn’t far to drive over to the more-populated part of Acadia National Park, and there were some nice features of being on the quiet side—close to the Seawall, Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, pretty views of the harbor and some marshlands, good restaurants in Southwest Harbor.
