Review: This is a large, level campground that is very family friendly. Sites are paved and many are good-sized and well-spaced, though some are short. There are some shade trees.

The campground is a half-mile back from the beach, and there are three walking/biking paths that connect directly from the campground to the beach. Sites vary in size and most don’t provide much privacy, since there are not a lot of trees and bushes. The check-in process was smooth even though we were early for check-in (which is listed as 4 pm). We unhooked near the check-in station, though we were given confusing directions about where to unhook (it was hard to see the entrance to the parking lot where they recommended we unhook, though it is a great parking lot for hooking and unhooking).

Site D-32 is a level back-in site on asphalt with surrounding grass, dirt and overhanging trees. This is a short site with tree overgrowth, and the site is angled in the wrong direction for the one-way road, so it was very tricky to get our motorhome in the site, avoiding branches, and making room for our car. But we managed. Right behind our site was a large grassy field (common area), so we didn’t feel too close together with the neighbors. We would look for a bigger/longer site in the future, but this is all that was available when we booked.

On our third visit, we stayed in site G-07, which we loved. Anything on that outer perimeter is preferable to the inner circle sites, and this site had a huge area behind it that was great for the cats to explore.

It’s a ¼ mile walk from the campground to the beach, which is a lovely sand dune area. There is a boardwalk for part of it. You can also ride bikes almost all the way to the dunes.

You’re close to town for restaurants and groceries, but you don’t feel like you’re in the middle of town at the campground. Very relaxing park environment. Our favorite restaurant in town is Local Ocean Seafoods, right in the harbor area of Newport. The aquarium is also a lovely place to spend several hours.

We would definitely stay here again, though getting the right site makes a big difference here.
